Madame CJ Walker Moves to Harlem

By all accounts the wealthiest Black woman in America, Madam Walker had built a cosmetics empire selling black cosmetic products to people who hadn’t been considered a market before. She uses this wealth to end movement activities in every place she’s lived, including Harlem. In a house she built the following year, she hosted numerous organizing meetings with black leaders from across the country. It is thought that the idea of the 1917 Silent Parade starts at one of these gatherings.
