Ralph Tyler will become the only African American journalist to serve as the only accredited foreign correspondent in France during World War I. He will write for all the major American newspapers, reporting on the bravery of black soldiers and the difference in attitudes on race between French and American societies. The appointment is significant enough nationwide that papers like the Des Moines Bystander(with a clipping attached) will report on it.
